Welcome to Child and Adolescent Mental Health Services (CAMHS) – the specialist NHS service that offers assessment and treatment to children and young people if they are experiencing emotional, behavioural or mental health difficulties. CAMHS Parent and Carer Participation Group
We are a small, friendly, working group that influences and aids development of CAMHS services.
Why are parents’ perspectives necessary?
- To voice what parents feel are important factors for their child when seeking help from CAMHS - ‘keeping it real’.
- To share with CAMHS a clear picture of parents’ experiences, concerns and viewpoints. This will ensure aspects of CAMHS services can be tailored to help other parents/carers, to help them to understand and provide the optimum support for the child who is receiving assistance from CAMHS.
- To provide service managers with a comprehensive understanding of parents’ experiences of the current service – good and bad – and to assist in the development of services. This will help ensure the best possible patient experience and outcome for everyone – from the initial letters that you receive after referral, to the locations that you can access services, through to any assistance that may be offered with specialist clinicians after a thorough initial assessment with your child.
