Being shortlisted for Trust of the Year at the 2022 HSJ Awards was just the tip of the iceberg. Here are some of the other recent successes and achievement of the Trust and its colleagues...
- People working at Derbyshire Healthcare NHS Foundation Trust have given the organisation a resounding thumbs up in the most recent annual NHS National Staff Survey. Nearly three quarters of colleagues at Derbyshire Healthcare NHS Foundation Trust said they would recommend the Trust a place to work. The survey also showed that 72% of colleagues said they would recommend the Trust’s services to a friend or relative if they needed care. The Trust received the highest score nationally amongst similar trusts for being safe and healthy, working flexibly and overall staff morale. In each of the seven areas, the Trust scored higher than the national average of other trusts that provide similar services.
- In June 2022, Derbyshire Healthcare colleague Simon Rose (pictured) received the prestigious President’s Medal from the Royal College
of Psychiatrists for his efforts to promote patient involvement in mental healthcare and psychiatry. - Derbyshire Healthcare NHS Foundation Trust has been awarded The Defence Employer Recognition Scheme silver award, which recognises the Trust’s ongoing commitment to our armed forces community, as an employer.
- A team of specialist vaccination staff at Derbyshire Healthcare have been recognised for providing a bespoke Covid vaccination service for people with severe mental illness, learning disabilities or autism, by being named as a regional winner at the 2022 NHS Parliamentary Awards.
- Derbyshire Healthcare was shortlisted for ‘Best Employee Experience Initiative’ at the CIPD People’s Management Awards 2022.
- The Trust's Chair, Selina Ullah, was named a 'pioneer' at the 2023 Asian Professional Network Association (APNA) Awards.
- Dedicated Derbyshire Healthcare mental health support worker, Clare Exton, was chosen as one of the ‘Women of the Year’ in recognition of her services to healthcare and the NHS.
- Emily Shaw and Andy Johnson, part of the Trust’s Preceptorship support team that helps newly qualified nurses, nursing associates and allied health professionals when they start employment in the NHS, were awarded the prestigious Chief Nursing Officer (CNO) Silver Award in 2022 for their work with newly qualified health professionals.
- Our Deputy Director of Communications and Engagement, Anna Shaw, won a national 2022 communications award for her contribution to NHS communications.

Two Estates and Facilities Management colleagues at Derbyshire Healthcare NHS Foundation Trust have received their degrees in Mechanical Engineering at Sheffield Hallam University – capping a stunning rise up through the organisation since starting as apprentices. Jordan Yates, now Head of Estates from Boulton Moor in Derby, and Reuben Riley, now an Estates Officer from Derby city, both have worked their way up within the Trust whilst undertaking their undergraduate degrees.
- Ifti Majid, whilst Chief Executive of Derbyshire Healthcare NHS Foundation Trust, was named on a list of 20 people and organisations who “could and should” exert influence over national health policy over the forthcoming year.
- Ifti was also elected as the chair of the NHS Confederation’s Mental Health Network, again whilst serving as Chief Executive of Derbyshire Healthcare. Ifti will promote excellence in mental health services, with an aim to influence national policy development to encourage best practice and innovation across the sector.
- Ade Odunlade, our Chief Operating Officer, has taken on the role of chair for the NHS Providers’ Chief Operating Officers Network, to shape and influence the way the NHS operates as well as provide support and guidance for members.
- Our Team Derbyshire Healthcare HEARTS (Honouring Exceptional and Really Terrific Staff) Awards aim to highlight the amazing kindness, compassion and excellence shown by colleagues over the last 12 months, to service users and each other. Learn more about the most recent HEARTS award winners.
- On 6 April 2020, Derbyshire Healthcare set up the Derbyshire Mental Health Helpline and Support Service, a free, 24-hour helpline offering support to those with mental health issues in Derbyshire. The support line was initially launched on as a response to the COVID-19 pandemic, in recognition that the pandemic was going to have an impact on people’s health and wellbeing and has been supporting people across the county ever since.
- Ifti Majid, whilst Derbyshire Healthcare's Chief Executive, was named one of the 50 most influential BAME people in health in the UK, alongside the Chief Executive of Health Education England Dr Navina Evans – and Manchester Utd footballer Marcus Rashford.
- A partnership including our Children’s Continence Service has been shortlisted for three Nursing Times awards
