A new tree has been planted at Derbyshire Healthcare NHS Foundation Trust’s Kingsway Hospital site in Derby in recognition of the Queen’s Platinum Jubilee.
The Cornus Controversa ‘Variegata’ tree, which is located in the Trust’s memorial and celebration garden, was planted as part of the Queen’s Green Canopy initiative to celebrate the Queen’s leadership.
The Trust has also planned an array of other activities across teams to take place over the weekend, including the decorating of wards in our inpatient services, and will be holding a competition to find the best decorated building.
Ifti Majid, Chief Executive at Derbyshire Healthcare, welcomed the idea to plant a tree to pay tribute to the Queen.
He said: “The Queen has dedicated 70 incredible years of her life to serve her people, so it is only right that we recognise her commitment and success. We felt that a Cornus Controversa ‘Variegata’, also known as a wedding cake tree, struck the right note of celebration.
“The idea of being part of the Queen’s Green Canopy is one that really appealed to everyone at the Trust, as it chimes with our efforts to promote sustainability and to create better environments for our service users and colleagues.
“We hope people using our services at Kingsway Hospital will come and enjoy the tree for years to come, and that it aids in people’s recovery.”
