Today (Tuesday 10 October) marks World Mental Health Day. In support of this day, a Derbyshire Healthcare Finance colleague will take part in cycling throughout the week, to raise money for the charity Rethink Mental Illness.
Amy Hudson, Finance Assistant at Derbyshire Healthcare NHS Foundation Trust, is determined to complete a 1150km cycle by Sunday 15 October.
Amy explained: “I turned to cycling to support with my own mental health as I have struggled with this and wanted to put my mind to a challenge that was important to me.”
“I will be cycling every morning and evening both before and after work in the outdoors. The plan is to ride 120km a day between Monday to Friday and 550km between Saturday and Sunday with a well earnt pit stop at Caffe Velo Verde to help motivate me!
“I have loved cycling ever since I started in lockdown. I spent most of my free time cycling and my annual leave on cycling holidays. So far I have cycled a total of 10,300miles this year.”
Money raised from the fundraiser will go to Rethink Mental Illness Charity to help those struggling with mental health.
The Office of National Statistics reports that 115 people die by suicide in the UK every week.
Amy has so far raised more than £660. If you would like to donate to the fundraising campaign, please visit Amy’s JustGiving page to find out more.
