A Derbyshire Healthcare Estates colleague has won an Honouring Excellent and Really Terrific Staff (HEARTS) award, which recognises Trust employees and teams who have gone above and beyond the call of duty and performed at a consistently high level to support patients, carers and fellow colleagues. Clive Moore, Estates Technician was praised for his 48 years of continuous service in the NHS. 
Clive, currently working for Derbyshire Healthcare’s Estates department, won the Lifetime Achievement Award. To celebrate NHS75, this award was created to honour a member of the Trust who has dedicated at least 25 years of their career to the NHS and who truly reflects the Trust values, demonstrating a commitment to providing support and care to patients and staff.
Clive received his award during a ceremony on 22 November at Kingsway Hospital in Derby where he was joined by Derbyshire Healthcare colleagues.
The awards ceremony had a winter wonderland theme and was hosted by members of the Trust’s Board of Directors.
Clive joined the Trust in 1975. He spent 25 years as a joiner and now works on day-to-day maintenance as an Estates Technician. After his Parkinson’s Disease diagnosis, Clive has scaled back the physical duties he performs in recent years. However, he still has plenty of work to keep him busy such as dealing with contractors and managing emergency maintenance jobs. Clive shared in an interview with Derbyshire Life on the NHS turning 75, “I have Parkinson’s but Parkinson’s hasn’t got me”, exemplifying his positive outlook on life.
Clive was described by the person who nominated him as “more like a family member than a colleague” to many. Clive was celebrated for being passionate, dedicated and highly enthusiastic about working for the Trust – particularly around fundraising for the Trust’s League of Friends charity and for Rainbow Hospice. Clive has brought in donations of around £38,000 for charity. Clive is well known across the Trust for hosting the League of Friends summer fayre for several years and for performing a magic show as Clive-o the Clown.
In his spare time, Clive is also the chairman of the Northern Magic Circle, often entertaining patients as a magician to bring joy to patients on the wards. As his nomination read, there is very little Clive can’t do: “although what he is physically able to do work wise, over the years, has changed, he continues to work and isn’t thinking of retiring just yet. Despite his current health issues, the work he does for the Trust is not just a job to him – it’s so much more.”
Mark Powell, Chief Executive at Derbyshire Healthcare, congratulated Clive on his win. He said: “Clive is an absolute credit to the Trust. He embodies exactly what it means to be a part of our Team Derbyshire Healthcare family through living and breathing our Trust values.
“Clive is always there to support you, no matter what the task may be. This includes some of the fantastic fundraising he has been a part of, such as the League of Friend’s charity summer fayre.
“What an achievement it is to reach 40 plus years of service! This is a testament to the type of hardworking character Clive is and his commitment to healthcare across Derbyshire.
“I am told Clive is not ready to part ways with Derbyshire Healthcare yet, and so I look forward to hopefully many more years of his support. Very well done, Clive!”
Award nominations had been considered by a judging panel made up of Chief Executive – Mark Powell, Acting Director of People and Inclusion – Rebecca Oakley, Interim Assistant Director of Clinical Professional Practice – Kyri Gregoriou, and EQUAL forum member – Les Ralph.
